Southern Railway (Chennai) Vacancy Details
Specific vacancies for the Southern Railway (SR) zone are as follows:
- Assistant Bridge: 19 posts.
- Assistant Carriage and Wagon: 65 posts.
- Assistant Loco Shed (Electrical): 13 posts.
- Assistant TL and AC: 37 posts.
- Assistant P.Way: 8 posts.
- Trackmaintainer-IV: 556 posts.
- Assistant (S and T): 30 posts.
- Assistant Track Machine: 24 posts.
- Pointsman B: 241 posts.

Eligibility Criteria
- Age Limit (as of 01.01.2026): 18 to 33 years.
- Educational Qualification: 10th Standard pass, OR ITI from a recognized institute, OR National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT.
- Nationality: Must be a citizen of India, Nepal, Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee (with eligibility certificate).
Examination Pattern
The recruitment process consists of a Computer Based Test (CBT), followed by a Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Document Verification, and Medical Examination.
Computer Based Test (CBT) Structure
* Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for candidates with scribes).
* Total Questions: 100.
Subject Breakdown
- General Science: 25 questions.
- Mathematics: 25 questions.
- General Intelligence and Reasoning: 30 questions.
- General Awareness and Current Affairs: 20 questions.
Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark deducted for every wrong answer.
Physical Efficiency Test (PET) Requirements
Passing the PET is mandatory and qualifying in nature.
- Male Candidates: Lift and carry 35 kg for 100 meters in 2 minutes (one chance).
- Run 1000 meters in 4 minutes and 15 seconds (one chance).
- Female/Transgender Candidates: Lift and carry 20 kg for 100 meters in 2 minutes (one chance).
- Run 1000 meters in 5 minutes and 40 seconds (one chance).
Application Fee
- General/OBC/EWS: Rs.500 (Rs.400 refunded after appearing in CBT).
- SC/ST/Ex-SM/PwBD/Female/Minorities/EBC: Rs.250 (Full Rs.250 refunded after appearing in CBT).
Important Instructions for Candidates
- Single Application: Candidates must submit only one application to their chosen RRB/Zone. Multiple applications will lead to rejection and debarment.
- Account Creation: Details filled in the "Create an Account" form (Mobile, Email, Name) cannot be modified after registration.
- Identity Verification: It is strongly advised to use Aadhaar or Digi Locker for authentication to ensure smoother verification at exam centers.
- Signature: Must be in running handwriting; block or capital letters will result in rejection.
- Medical Suitability: Candidates must ensure they meet the specific medical standards (A2, A3, B1, etc.) for the posts they opt for, as no alternative appointment is given if found unfit.
